Why Sugar Scrubs are Beneficial Year Round

I wanted to get caught up and introduce our newest additions to our Product Line, our Sugar Scrubs.  If you haven't tried a sugar scrub, now is the time!  Okay, seriously, sugar scrubs are one of the most natural and beneficial items to add to your beauty routine year round.

So, what exactly are they benefits of sugar scrubs?  Sugar can help skin naturally glow because of its fine texture. Unlike some skincare products, sugar scrubs don’t clog your pores, preventing you from icky breakouts, making them great for people who suffer from eczema and psoriasis. Sugar scrubs act as natural exfoliators that are better than using chemical based products. Despite its grainy feel, sugar in a scrub is gentle enough to be used on the skin and protects against the loss of moisture. Surprisingly, the use of sugar scrubs in your skincare routine can also help eliminate blemishes and restore balance to the skin’s natural oils.

Unlike a salt scrub, sugar scrubs do not dry the skin. A sugar scrub is alpha-hydroxy rich. Alpha-hydroxy is an active substance with exfoliating and emollient properties.

This is a quick list of all the benefits you will see after using our sugar scrubs:
  • Sugar scrubs are the most perfect way of getting rid of the dry, flaky skin that develops over the day.
  • Sugar scrubs are user-friendly for all skin types because they leave no side effects in their wake.
  • They work wonders in preventing skin ailments like eczema and psoriasis because they hydrate skin so effectively.
  • Sugar scrubs are a great way to fight cellulite in the body.
  • Sugar scrubs for face are used not only for skin exfoliation, but also for cleansing and massaging it. The advantage of which is that they do not clog the pores and are easily absorbed into the skin. Thus, sugar scrubs for acne are a great idea to help prevent acne.
  • They act as the all body polishing agents as well, leaving clean and smooth skin. This is because they are packed with the goodness of alpha hydroxy which is essential for a glowing skin.
  • Repeated use of sugar scrubs will help one to have healthier, glowing, uniformly textured and colored skin.
  • They are a much better choice than salt scrubs because they aren't as harsh as salt scrubs and are much smoother than them.
  • Sugar scrub benefits also include the fact that they can be used by children without any side effects.
  • Sugar scrubs can be used as a soothing agent after a rough shave.
  • Sugar scrub benefits also run into the fact that they can circulate and stimulate the lymph nodes.
  • It acts as a preventive measure against tanning.
  • Everyday use will also help to formulate a protective layer for the skin and prevent areas like the knees, elbow, etc. from becoming dark.
  • It works on the toughest of skins while providing it with the richness that it deserves.
  • Sugar scrub benefits can also be seen in healing of blemishes.
  • Sugar scrubs can be used on the lips as well. Sugar scrubs for lipsworks wonders because it helps in preventing chapped lips and skin.
  • It also helps to soften callused and rough skin, leaving it smooth and fragrant.
  • It is much more smoother for the skin than the use of pumice stones and the like.
  • Sugar scrub benefits also include the reduction in use of separate skin moisturizers and cleansers because it has moisturizing properties incorporated.
  • Sugar scrubs also help to absorb the oils and dirt from the skin and balance the natural oils.
  • It helps to keep the skin constantly hydrated and radiant.
Our sugar scrubs additionally go the extra step of added natural herbs and teas for a rounded, targeted benefit to meet your skins needs.  I will be adding many more sugar scrubs in the days to come, each designed to target specific needs, making it easy for you to find the perfect one for you.

Aging Skin Care

As many of us know, as we age we start to see differences in our skin.  Increased roughness, wrinkling, irregular pigmentation (coloration) or inelasticity. These are all normal changes in our skin as we age.  As a result, your skin requires different care than it did when you were younger.

We have all seen the ads promising we will look 10,15, or 20 years younger if you buy whatever it is they are selling.  The truth behind many of these products is that while you may convince yourself it is working, over time, the long term damage to your skin in irreverseable.

I have many times been asked what my suggestions are for dealing with the affects of aging on your skin.  My answer, start with Shea Butter.  Shea butter is one of Nature's wonders, but it is a special one. It has been used for millennia by many generations of African people for skin care, baby care, healing and food. The Shea tree is considered sacred because of the bounty of goodness it can do for your skin, hair, beauty and health. The secret of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti's legendary beauty, Shea Butter is powerful enough to renew, repair and protect the skin against aging and harsh climate.

Extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree (Butyrospermum parkii), which grows in the savannah of Western Africa. The English name Shea comes from its Bambara name "sii", which means sacred. As a sacred tree, it is treated with particular respect.. Growing up to 60 feet tall, the Shea tree does not flower before it is 20 years old and can live up to 200 years. What makes Shea butter an extraordinary skin care choice and an amazing body healer is its richness in precious constituents, which include unsaturated fats with a large proportion of "unsaponifiables" components, essential fatty acids, phytosterols, vitamin E and D, provitamin A and allantoin. All these are natural and make Shea butter a superfood for your skin (and hair), but that is not all it can do for you because it is:
  • Wrinkles, fine lines and scars repairing
  • Shea Buter
smileAntioxidant
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Deeply moisturizing
  • Stimulating for the superficial microcirculation
  • Skin strengthening
  • Skin protecting
  • UV protecting
  • Skin regenerating
  • Collagen production stimulating (makes the skin stronger, more supple and younger)
  • Minor cuts and burns healing
  • Muscle ache healing
  • Physical endurance enhancer
Given its high content in anti-inflammatory and healing components, Shea butter helps the healing of skin disorders and problems like:
  • eczema
  • psoriasis
  • rash
  • hives
  • insect bites
  • poisonous plants contact dermatitis
  • skin cracks
  • burns
  • minor cuts
Moreover, Shea butter is deeply soothing and calming on any irritation and inflammation. Because it helps the healing of the skin, it can take care of heel and skin cracks in record time. But it does even more.
Shea butter is very beneficial for sportive men and women, as it prepares the muscles before the workout and helps them to recover faster after. It also helps to reduce muscle aches as it stimulates the elimination of toxins from the muscles.

Shea butter is a "super food" for your skin!

Winter Weather and Your Skin.

Winter weather, as we all know, takes a huge toll on your skin.  While the summer sun and water and weather can also be damaging; winter temperatures seem to have an extremely harsh affect.  It also seems to be easier to ignore dry, scratchy or damaged skin because it is covered with long sleeves, pants, and winter clothing.  This time of year is the perfect time to start healing, repairing, and renew your skin before the warm spring and summer days hit and shorts, tank tops, and flip flops become common.

I wanted to spend a little time talking about some of the products we have that can help repair, heal, and soften your skin before bikini season.  As well as introduce the newest product to our line, our Soothing Salted Soap Bars.

To truly begin the healing process, your skin will require products that encourage natural cell regeneration.  The first step is to get rid of the old, dead, or dying cells that are still hanging around.  To do this without rubbing yourself raw, try our Just for Heels & Elbows Exfoliating Soap.  By incorporating a slice of loofah into the soap, it becomes a gentle cleanser, helping to rid your skin of those nasty old cells and rejuvenate your skin by allowing the fresh, new, health cells to be exposed.  The natural coconut oils and palm oils in our detergent free glycerin soap add the additional softness necessary to help nourish those new cells, making them strong and beautiful.

Or, to detoxify and cleanse your skin, we recommend our new Sonoman Sea Salt based Soothing Salted Soap Bar.

Sea salt contains skin nourishing minerals such as magnesium, zinc, calcium, potassium and iodine.  Some of the many benefits include:
- relaxes skin muscles
- cleanses and detoxifies face and body
- sea salts draw toxins out of the body, which will naturally lead to feeling refreshed
- grainy and therefore makes for a great scrub
- increases blood circulation
Sea salts also help Rheumatologic Conditions, sea salts can be effective in balneotherapy of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, and Osteoarthritis. The minerals are absorbed stimulating blood circulation.
Common Skin Ailments, research has demonstrated that skin disorders such as acne and psoriasis. One study concluded that the high concentration of magnesium in sea salt was instrumental in improving skin hydration and reducing inflammation.
Allergies, the high concentration of bromide and magnesium in the sea salt can relieve allergic reactions by cleansing and detoxifying.
Skin Aging, further research into sea salt benefits has shown a 40% reduction in the depth of wrinkling.

And don't forget the healing properties of our Old Fashioned Milk Bath and our Lavishing Bath Salts.

Finally, don't forget the importance of nourishing your skin daily.  Choose from our Lotions, all including Vitamin E, Allotin and Sunflower Oil, know for their healing and protecting properties.  Choose from our Facial lotion with added horsetail butter, great for fine lines by adding collagen and elasticity to your delicate facial skin, Silky Smooth Body Lotion with added mineral oil, or our Rich & Creamy Body Lotion with added palm butter blend for hyper moisturizing ability or our Satin Body Lotion, nourishing with being oily.

The Business of being Mom

I had a difficult time deciding what to write about today, thus my late entry.  I prefer to talk about what new products I am adding or what fun things I have been working on but something hit me today as I was posting my latest addition to my Valentine's Day Products, the business of being a mom who owns a business.

Starting and running a business is in many ways a huge task.  Any of you who have ever owned a businesses or currently do, can attest to the time, energy, and effort put forth in an attempt to make you business work and be successful.  For me it's very much a blessing and passion!  The difficulty many times comes in attempting to balance work, business, and family.  While my children are my biggest supporters and greatest inspiration, they also need mom!

So I'm sure many of you are now wondering what this has to do with my business and the products I create?  That's where the mom part comes in.  Being a mom and a business woman mean finding creative, resourceful ways to be a good mom.  And, allowing the mom in you to be your creative energy.

As many of you may already know, my business started as a desire to find a better product for my kids and their sensitive skin, in addition to finding a way to take the headaches out of bath time.  The culmination of the two resulted in my initial products; my bug, butterfly, snake, lizard and frog soaps.  While adding fun, they keep the basic principles of natural ingredients that nourish and care for sensitive skin, as the primary focus.

As moms, going the extra miles for our families is an everyday occurrence, which many times goes unrecognized.  So, any ways we can devise to make our tasks easier while showing our love for our family is a bonus.  That's the design and desire behind every one of my products.  I hope you find them to have the same benefits for you and your family and would love to hear your stories about what being a business owner and a mom (or a dad) means and how you balance the two.

Why Teas & Herbs?

As many of you know, one of our most popular products is our Back To Basics Tea & Herb Line.  I wanted to give you some more information about our line and answer the question I have heard so many times over, "What are the benefits of Tea & Herb Soaps?".

For hundreds of years teas and herbs have been used to treat a variety of ailments and conditions.  Prior to our current forms of medine and medical treatments, teas and herbs were used in combinations to heal everything from upset stomach to snake bites.  While we now have more information and changes in science have greatly affected our current methods of practice, the natural benefits from some of natures most beautiful ingredients can't be ignored.  I am in no way suggesting substituting teas or herbs for medicines or advice from doctors or professionals.  Instead, consider adding them to your existing routine for additional benefits.

Honey is a natural skin moisturizer, reduces acne, has anti-bacterial properties.  Our honey based glycerin soap can be found in our Honey, Ginger & Oatmeal Soap as well as our Honey & Oatmeal Facial Line.

Sage is derived from the Latin word meaning health or healing, used by the ancient Greeks and Romans for everything from snakebites to promoting longevity.  Sage is great for reducing swelling in joints as well.

Apple is high in antioxidants helping to reduces wrinkles and has anti-aging properties.

Raspberry has astringent properties making it ideal for skin irritations and improves skin firmness making it great for aging skin.  And combined with our moisturizing glycerin soap, won't dry your face.

Mint is a beneficial ingredient for skin care because of its ability to act as an anti-pruritic agent. That means that its juice can soothe and calm skin that's itchy or infected. You can even use it to help heal bites from mosquitoes, wasps and bees. Because mint contains vitamin A, it may strengthen skin tissue and help reduce oily skin.  You've probably never considered rubbing mint oil on your face to prevent pimples from popping up or to treat wounds and rashes. Mint oil, however, has served as a natural astringent, and people have used it to treat these problems for a long time. What makes mint helpful in treating inflammations such as acne is its high content of salicylic acid.  This acid, which is found naturally in mint, is an active ingredient used in many skin care products. The acid loosens up dead skin cells, allowing them to shed easier. That has the potential to prevent your pores from clogging up, resulting in fewer pimples and clearer skin.

Coffee, the caffeine in coffee has a number of benefits for your skin, from treating redness and inflammation, to reducing the appearance of under-eye circles, to getting rid of cellulite. By incorporating caffeine into your skin care routine, you can reveal evenly toned, smooth skin all over your body.  Although caffeine cannot completely erase hereditary dark circles, applying caffeine under your eyes will reduce the puffiness and inflammation associated with dark circles. Additionally, caffeine reduces the build-up of blood under your eyes which contributes to dark shadows. Coffee also acts as sunblock and prevent sunburn and wrinkles and absorbs and neutralizes strong odors such as fish and other smells.

Oatmeal functions as a skin protectant -- it protects the skin from irritants and helps soothe skin that's itchy, painful or irritated. You can find oatmeal in one of our newest additions to our product line, Old Fashioned Milk Bath along with a variety of our soaps.

Chamomile is used for muscle twitches, wounds, burns & scrapes, skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, chickenpox & diaper rash.

Cinnamon has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, astringent, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.

Cherry clarifies, brightens and energizes the skin, improves skin showing:  early or advanced aging, uneven tone, or if you smoke or face environmental stressors.

If you take a look at you local supermarket or store you most likely won't find any of these on the shelves, instead you are more likely to find an array of chemically based products suggesting they can cure everything or fix anythings.  My products are all natural and made from the natural ingredients.  I won't promise to make you look 10 years younger or take away every wrinkle mother nature has so kindly given, but will guarentee if you try my products you will see a difference in your skin!
